Consultancy and Kimono Matching Service

Consultancy is available on any aspect of kimono, Japanese crafts and culture. This can encompass anything from being dressed in kimono for a party or wedding, to a fully accompanied private tour of Japan!

Services include:

  • Dressing waitresses/meet-and-greet staff/models for corporate events and photoshoots
  • Private lesson anywhere in the UK
  • Japanese-themed wedding service - invitations, table decorations, favours etc
  • Itinerary advice on a trip to Japan - where to go, what to see, off-the-beaten-track secrets!
  • Bespoke, accompanied tours of Japan, for example focussing on a particular aspect of the culture

Over the years I have built up a variety of amazing contacts in the world of traditional Japanese arts and crafts including leading practitioners of many art forms. I can even arrange private parties with Geisha entertainers in Kyoto, as well as traditional musical performances, tea ceremonies and hands-on craft activities. Private music (koto, shamisen, shakuhachi), tea ceremony and Japanese dance tuition in Tokyo can be arranged as part of an accompanied tour.

An initial consultation is free of charge*. This is not an advice-giving session, but a chance for us to establish your requirements, timescale, budget etc. Afterwards, a detailed budget will be drawn up and a deposit required.

*At a time and place convenient to myself, usually within North Yorkshire, otherwise expenses and a half-day rate may be payable. Telephone and email discussions may be acceptable.

Kimono Matching Service

Find the perfect vintage kimono to suit your style and budget!

Many people ask me to find them a kimono or obi to display as a wall hanging. They look stunning as artwork for your walls! It is very difficult to dress yourself in kimono, but a haori jacket (traditionally worn as an outdoor jacket on top of kimono) makes an elegant, stylish evening jacket which fits size 10-18.

We always have many kimono, haori and accessories in stock which we sell at shows and you are welcome to enquire about these. However, a kimono matching service is available too. We will find you a specific colour, design or type of kimono (or any accessory) to suit your budget, and have it sent over from Japan for you.

If you have something specific in mind, please email katie@japancrafts.co.uk and we will take it from there. Due to many timewasters in the past, we now ask for a £10 deposit which will be deducted from your final bill. After this is paid, we will send you a selection of images and prices for you to choose from. Price includes consultation, shipping from Japan (and customs charges, VAT etc), and delivery to you in the UK. Once payment is received you should receive your item/s within 2-3 weeks.
